WESTMINSTER LONDON
WESTMINSTER CATHEDRAL: Built on the site of the Middlesex County Prison, the foundation stone was laid in 1895 and John Francis Bentley was appointed Architect. The third Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vaughan, was responsible for much of the styling, modelling the whole on the Roman Basilicas. Its internal length is 324 feet, height to each of the four domes 112 feet, and features a magnificent high altar made from a single block of Cornish granite weighing 12 tons.
