Zdeněk Miler

výtvarník

"Zdeněk Miler was a Czech director and artist of animated films for children, the author of the popular character Little Mole. He began his artistic career in the Zlín film studios and in 1945 he started working at the Barrandov studio Bratři v triku, under the direction of Jiří Trnka. The studio’s logo, three curly little boys in sailor shirts, is his work. His first independent work was an animated story about a millionaire who stole the sun based on a theme from Jiří Wolker’s work.

He is most famous for the animated series about Little Mole, which gained great popularity. At present, there are 49 episodes about Little Mole. Interestingly, the series about Little Mole is not spoken (with the exception of episode 1 - How Little Mole Got His Trousers), Little Mole and his little friends only make sounds and onomatopoeia, which are actually voice recordings of Miler’s two little daughters Kateřina and Barbora. Since 1959 he was married to Emilie Dlouhá.

He also expanded his rich artistic activity to include illustrations for children’s books. For example, he illustrated Petiška’s Fairy-tale Grandfather. During the previous regime, he lent his name to writer Ivan Klíma for some works about Little Mole.(source: Wikipedia)
