Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the son of Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria Pertl. His father was a successful composer, violinist and assistant concert master at the Salzburg court.
Mozart was an exceptionally talented musician and began playing in public at the age of 6. During his lifetime he associated with various European venues and patrons and composed hundreds of works that included sonatas, symphonies, masses, chamber music, concertos and operas. His music was full of vivid emotions and sophisticated textures.
Mozart is considered one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music. Along with Haydn and Beethoven he brought to its height the achievements of the Viennese Classical school. Unlike any other composer in musical history, he wrote in all the musical genres of his day and excelled in every one. His taste, his command of form and his range of expression made him the most universal of all composers.
Mozart died in Vienna at the age of 35.
