Marie Curie-Skłodowska, was an important Polish scientist. She spent most of her life in France, where she was engaged in research in the field of physics and chemistry. Her greatest achievements include: the theory of radioactivity, the technique of splitting radioactive isotopes and the discovery of two new chemical elements: radium and polonium. Under her personal guidance, the first research into the treatment of cancer using radioactivity was also carried out. Curie-Skłodowska was awarded the Nobel Prize twice. For the first time in 1903, she received the Physics Prize for her research on radioactivity, together with her husband Pierre Curie and the discoverer of radioactivity, Henri Becquerel. She was awarded a second prize in chemistry in 1911 for the isolation of pure radium.(source: Wikipedia)
